Pajarero (2022) – Luis José Ramírez Cortés
From the series “Códigos Mexicanos”
A man strides through an open blue. On his shoulder rests a tall cage, filled with color, movement, and song. The birds within—red, yellow, blue—seem to flicker like memories, captured for a moment between sky and earth.
The Pajarero, the bird-carrier, remains nameless. His face is partly hidden, his gaze turned inward. He stands for many—for those who walk, carry, act, preserve. The cage becomes a silent symbol: it speaks of tradition and transmission, of closeness and loss, of the eternal tension between protection and freedom.
In the vast blue of the background, shadowy figures appear like echoes of memory. People at work, at play, in dance, in struggle, in daily life. They move silently through the pictorial space, like inscribed stories, like cultural codes that continue across generations. It is a chorus of gestures and postures that connects the individual motif with collective life.
With the series “Códigos Mexicanos”, Luis José Ramírez Cortés condenses the everyday into poetic signs. His visual language is clear yet narrative, carried by intense colors and a deep bond with Mexico’s cultural identity. The local here becomes universal, the visible becomes a symbol.
The artist from Oaxaca, trained at the Academy of San Carlos and the University of the Arts in Warsaw, does not look at daily life from the outside—he walks right through it. “Pajarero” invites us to pause and listen: to the soft fluttering of birds, to the voices of people, to the poetry of a country captured in color and form.
The work is available as an original at Mexhaus/Ramírez Handels. A certificate of authenticity is included.
