Manzanero (2022) – Luis José Ramírez Cortés

From the series “Códigos Mexicanos”

A man moves through space, the weight of his work resting on his shoulder: a long pole hung with red apples that glow like softly chiming points within the image. His hat casts shadows over his face; his gaze remains hidden, fully devoted to the path and to movement. Beside him stands a child—small, attentive, full of wonder—looking up at the man, at the apples, at a world just beginning to open.

The background is populated by shadow-like figures: dancing, working, playing, walking. They appear like memories or signs—fleeting yet familiar. These are the codes of everyday life that Luis José Ramírez Cortés renders visible in this series: quiet gestures, recurring actions, the collective rhythms of life in Mexico.

Manzanero speaks of labor and transmission, of tradition and observation. The man walks ahead; the child follows with his eyes. Between them stretches an invisible bond of experience, curiosity, and future. Warm colors, gentle light, and a reduced visual language lend the scene a timeless stillness, in which the extraordinary reveals itself within the ordinary.

Born in Oaxaca, the artist weaves personal memory, cultural rootedness, and international influence into his work. After studying at the Academy of San Carlos and the University of the Arts in Warsaw, he developed a clear, poetic visual language that does not explain everyday life, but makes it tangible.

This work is presented in collaboration with Mexhaus/Ramírez Handels and is available as an original. A certificate of authenticity is included.

Manzanero invites us to pause and observe—how work, knowledge, and life are carried from one generation to the next.
