With vibrant colors, expressive figures, and a touch of musical magic, Luis José Ramírez Cortés invites us into the lively world of everyday life in Mexico. “Caballito” – a work from the series Códigos Mexicanos – is more than a painting: it is a homage to Mexico’s cultural identity, to its sounds, its memories, and its people.
The image depicts a scene full of movement and emotion: three musicians, a horse, a blue dog – all embedded in a dynamic interplay of colors and forms. The composition recalls the traditional “Caballitos”, those wooden horses on which children were photographed in parks – a symbol of childhood, nostalgia, and the connection to tradition. Yet Ramírez Cortés goes further: he weaves this motif together with urban elements, architectural fragments, and musical energy to make visible the dialogue between past and present.
The artist, born in Oaxaca and trained at the Academy of San Carlos as well as the University of the Arts in Warsaw, is renowned for his ability to transform everyday moments into poetic visual worlds. His works have been exhibited internationally and always reflect the soul of Mexico – full of color, rhythm, and cultural depth.
