Torito (2022) – Luis José Ramírez Cortés
From the series Códigos Mexicanos
A painting like fireworks – glowing, swirling, full of heartbeat.
A man carries fire on his shoulders – not an ordinary fire, but a whirlwind of light and colors that brings the small bull frame to life. Like a beating heart sparking flames, the “Torito” dances in a whirlpool of gold and orange, a glowing spectacle breaking through the darkness.
His step is powerful, his posture stretched between earth and sky. He carries not just a figure, but an entire cosmos – full of energy, full of stories, full of life. The spirals on the Torito seem to spin, telling tales of old festivals, of joy that takes your breath away, of a pulse that binds community.
In the delicate lilac veil of the background float forgotten moments of Mexican days: musicians, dancers, vendors, families – whispering the códigos mexicanos, those invisible signs that weave identity, keep tradition alive, and preserve the rhythm of everyday life.
Torito is a poem of movement and light, a painting capturing the soul of celebration. It is a hymn to life, to the fire that connects us all – wild, radiant, and full of hope.
Luis José Ramírez Cortés, deeply rooted in Oaxaca yet worldly, builds with this work a bridge between tradition and the present.
This original, presented in collaboration with Mexhaus/Ramirez Handels, comes with a certificate of authenticity and invites you to feel the warmth of Mexico through his eyes.
A painting like a dance – vibrant, shining, unforgettable.
